Amarilla Golf Captain's Newsletter 1st April 2007
Dear Member

I would like to start my letter off by thanking Alan for his hard work during his year as Captain and also for asking me to be his Vice Captain.  Thanks also go to everyone for endorsing Alan´s choice.  I will certainly do my very best for the Club, but can´t help occasionally thinking “all that power overall those men”!!!!!  I really started the year off very well as at the AGM I could hardly speak because I had contracted a virus and so it was a very quiet meeting.  There was a very good turn out for the AGM with 41 members being present.

Alan´s Drive Out and my Drive in took place on Sunday, 1st April – no comments please, they´ve already been made. It´s amazing how many comedians we have amongst our membership! We had a few savouries after the drive out/in and we managed to raise €200 for my charity (which is for sufferers of Cerebral Palsy) from people guessing how far Alan and I would hit the ball.  This was made more difficult because nobody knew what clubs we were going to use and the winners were Jan Masters who guessed my shot at 127m and I actually hit it 124m.  For the men Alan hit his drive 227m and Rob Leadbeater guessed 226m.

I would like to thank everyone for their generosity.

It really is super to see so many of our members staying to join in the fun and games and really entering into the spirit of things.

Having said that I don´t think I was over popular when I announced that both bunkers on the second hole would come into play for my charity, but I do hope that people will voluntarily pay 50 cents should their ball find the bunker(s).

You will see from the minutes of the AGM the people who will form the Committee this year and at the moment I am still sorting out who is going to do what, but I am very pleased that John Brooksbank agreed to be my Vice Captain and I look forward to working with the new members of the Committee i.e.Goeff Bugden, John Dunlop and Brian Gladwin, as well as Bryan Masters, Sue Gladwin, Ian Jennison and of course Alan Watson as IPC.

I hope that we all can have a fun year, with good companionship and good golf and I look forward to welcoming everyone back to Amarilla in the near future.

With very best wishes.

Barbara Jennison
Captain
