Amarilla golf club members held the annual Margot Moffat trophy on Sunday 4th November 2007, the first ever trophy put up at Amarilla Golf Club and originally sponsored by the Moffats; sadly Margot is no longer with us but the event carries on due to the generosity of the current sponsors Brian and Sue Gladwin.
Once again we enjoyed near perfect conditions weather wise although unfortunately some of the greens were not in the best condition. I was fortunate to play with Steve (Badger) Johnson the eventual winner, he played some excellent golf, making some very good pressure puts when it mattered and pulling himself out of a run of four consecutive bogies in the middle holes. It was a pleasure to watch Badger, especially as I was suffering with a bad back and played abysmally, you did well to hold your concentration. The presentation was held on the terrace bar with most members keeping one eye on the television to keep tabs on how the European Volvo Masters and in particular Justin Rose was unfolding. Brian and Sue awarded some lovely (mainly alcoholic) prizes and provided a finger buffet to finish off an enjoyable mornings golf in Tenerife.
