Amarilla Golf Club in Tenerife held the annual ‘Masters’ golf tournament on 14th October 2007 sponsored as usual by Brian and Jan Masters. There was a good turnout of members supporting the event even though many of our ‘swallows’ have yet to return for the winter season. A hot sunny day with very little wind made conditions ideal although some of the greens were not up to the standards that we’ve come to expect in recent times.
Winner of the event, played as with all our ‘major’ comps off white tees for the men, was one of the people who hates playing off the whites, John Fallows! No more complaints that it’s too far off the whites please John. John’s net 71 included a two shot penalty for playing the wrong ball on the 16th. Second after a card countback was Gary Lavelle, third was Ian Sharpe and fourth all on the same score of 73 was Rob Carless. Geoff Bickerton was lowest gross score with a net 74 playing off a handicap of 2 and the ‘super seniors’ prize for the over seventies was won by Geoff Warner with a net 77. The green jacket, normally presented by the previous year’s winner was presented by Geoff Bickerton, father of last year’s winner Lewis, as he’s in America on a golf scholarship.
The presentation was held on the terrace bar with a finger buffet supplied by the sponsors Brian and Jan Masters.
